The Threat to Your Freedom, in Virginia, of All Places
In the birthplace of our country, and in the cradle of American democracy, there has risen one of the greatest threats to our continued freedoms that we have seen in modern times.
Many of you may be familiar with the Second Amendment fight that took place in the 2020 session of Virginia's General Assembly. Having taken control of both chambers of the general assembly, the Democrats wasted no time in attempting to enact overreaching, irrational gun control legislation.
Virginia’s localities responded quickly: more than 140 designated themselves Second Amendment Sanctuaries, reasoning that since the Democrat agenda considers it valid to declare "sanctuaries" that refuse to enforce federal immigration laws, certainly there can be no more noble cause than committing one's jurisdiction to uphold and defend our Constitution. After engagement by our 2A patriots, the most over-reaching of this irrational legislation was tabled by the Virginia Senate Judiciary Committee.
Our Bill of Rights, of which the Second Amendment is the muscle, found its basis in the Virginia Declaration of Rights. Written by George Mason and adopted by the Virginia Constitutional Convention on June 12, 1776, it was also drawn upon by Thomas Jefferson for the opening paragraphs of the Declaration of Independence. In short, it is an influential though perhaps lesser-known ancestor of one of the seminal documents of these United States.
That the threats of unconstitutional gun grabs should happen in Virginia, of all places, is a shocking reflection of how unconscionably the Democrats have strayed from the inviolate founding principles of this country. Perhaps it is not so shocking when one considers that their leading contender for the presidential nomination is a self-proclaimed socialist.
The Second Amendment was born in Virginia and I intend to see that it does not die here. I have publicly stated my intention to deputize thousands of law-abiding citizens, if necessary, to protect our God-given right to bear arms, as guaranteed by the Second Amendment. Any time that out of touch legislators seek to infringe our Second Amendment rights, I will fight back. As a career law enforcement professional, I am trained to respond to threats against my community, and this is no different. This grave threat deserves the attention of each and every one of us.
